by Rachel Villarespe on August 15, 2016
Let’s extend a warm welcome to our new staff members! Ms. Rachel Villarespe is our new Program Director. She has over twelve years experience in the early childhood education field as a teacher and a manager. She has a nine year old daughter named Isabella and she is excited to be able to work with you and your child.
Ms. Danielle worked at Head Start, and she has been working with children since she was 10 years old. From that young age, she knew she wanted to work with children. Ms. Danielle has a bachelor’s degree in Child Development. Danielle and her husband are very excited to join the parenting world. Ms. Danielle is due in October with her first child.
Ms. Amber Ross is our newest addition to our Higher Learning Academy staff as Secretary. Amber was born in Aurora, Illinois, then moved to Huntsville, AL where she did all of her grade school. Later she moved to Long Beach, CA where she received an AA from Brooks College in Fashion Design and a BA from American Intercontinental University in Fashion Design and Marketing. After college, she met her great husband Lanny and now we have relocated to San Diego. Amber is looking forward to helping our great Academy’s staff function better within her role, and getting to know you all.
Ms. Anne-Marie D’ Cruz is our newest addition to the infant classroom. She has a bachelor’s in Sociology. She has worked with children 20 + years, and she has two boys of her own. Ms. Anne-Marie is excited to have the opportunity to work with you and your child.
And lastly, Ms. Christine Vendiola has joined our team; she is the 4 year old teacher. She was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Her family and she moved to San Diego in June 1999. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Child and Family Development from San Diego State University. She is looking forward to working with Higher Learning Academy as a Lead Teacher. She is also looking forward to getting to know not only the students, but the parents as well. And she will do her best to help the students to meet their needs and prepare them for Kindergarten.
Today Mr. Josh Bariuan from the YMCA came to do a food tasting with Ms. Danielle’s class. The food tasting was to encourage the children to try new foods. They talked about the smell of the food, the taste, texture, what it looked like and the nutritional value of it. He also brought along a My plate for the children to take home. The My Plate contains compartments with all the food groups and the proper portion size for your child of that food group so you can use at home with your child.
Themes for the month
August 19, 2016
The teachers are very excited to start the new school year off. The themes for the month of August are Back to school and rules, All About me and family. Ms. Danielle has asked if each child could bring in a family picture to the classroom. It would be great so we can create a family wall for the children. At home, you can encourage conversation of the themes by talking about what makes them and their family unique.
Just a few reminders, we know it is hot outside, for the safety of the children we encourage them to wear closed-toe shoes. They can easily injure their toes while running or getting their foot ran over on the bikes. We also provide all meals here at the center, so we ask that you please not bring in outside food or beverages. We also encourage you to bring in your child by 9:00 a.m. If they are not here by that time, they are missing crucial learning time and our goal is to prepare them well for Kindergarten.Staff photos
